226 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION O phthalmologists like Eric Everett Lindstrom are medically trained doctors who are experts at diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of the eye. For 54 years, Dr. Lindstrom has sharpened his skills in various capacities. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Wheaton College, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University. He began his medical career in 1963 as an intern for the Madigan Army Medical Center and subsequently completed residencies in aerospace medicine and ophthalmology at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine and Brooke Army Medical Center. He continued to serve in military positions, which led him to receive the Decorated Bronze Star Medal, an Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and a Meritorious Service Medal. In 1972, he retired as the medical director of Palo Pinto County Mental Health Clinic. Since 1987 he has operated Lindstrom Eye and Laser Center. A diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine and the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Lindstrom also served as a consultant for the Texas State Rehabilitation Committee, chairman of the board of trustees for South Central Regional Medical Center, and senior aviation medical examiner and FAA flight surgeon for the Mississippi Air National Guard. In addition to being a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Preventive Medicine, the Aerospace Medical Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, he has given back to his community by serving on the board of directors of the Laurel Salvation Army, Good Shepherd Medical and Dental Clinic, and William Carey University. Currently, he serves as deacon of First Baptist Church in Laurel, Miss. Dr. Lindstrom is affiliated with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology and the Mississippi State Medical Association.
