228 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION R obert Nahum Long’s career was not one that happened by chance. Rather, it flourished due to his faith and hard work. Mr. Long believes that God has been with him throughout his life, leading him on a path toward success. Before maintaining a career that spanned over three decades, he enjoyed building model planes and wanted to be a pilot. His father brought him to Selfridge Air National Guard Base to take the qualifying test and complete a physical. He then received a letter from the surgeon general informing him that he could not be admitted into the Air Force Academy because of his nose, which was 98 percent deviated. However, by the grace of God, he served with the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955 and the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1961. Shortly after his Air Force service, Mr. Long began working as a machine operator for the Brunswick Corporation. From 1962 to 1964, he served as an operations process supervisor for the Ralston Purina Company, which produced American animal pet feed and pet food. While there, he established Candlestick Properties in Battle Creek, Mich. He oversaw the business operations of the residential property management company until his retirement in 1994. Although he no longer manages apartments, he remains involved in the industry by investing in real estate periodically. He also previously raised and trained golden retrievers. Mr. Long, who earned a diploma in industrial management from the Lincoln Institute of Technology in 1974, enjoys stock market investing and flower gardening. He was featured in the 22nd, 23rd and 24th editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest. ROBERT NAHUM LONG OWNER (RETIRED) Candle Stick Apartments Battle Creek, MI
