258 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION W ith a passion for helping people, Dr. Allan S. Mohl majored in sociology. Originally he thought about delving into probation and parole work, but, after serving in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, he was placed at a Veterans Affairs hospital as a social work technician working with patients for clinical reasons. After he completed active duty, he returned to school and earned a degree in social service in 1960 before obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in social work in 1991. Dr. Mohl excelled in the field, earning a position at the start of his career as an administrator and director of residential social services for The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. After serving in that capacity for three years, he became the director of family services and served as a consultant for TIP Neighborhood House in Bronx, New York. Between 1984 and 2004, he worked in education as a school social worker for the Committee on Special Education, District 28 and Project Liberty. He currently serves as a psychotherapist in his private practice based in Dobbs Ferry, New York, which has been in operation since 2004. In 1981, Dr. Mohl developed a family unit in a community-based agency in the South Bronx. He created a program through which students from Fordham University and other universities were able to reach a large number of people through community-based social service counseling. This was one of several units within the community-based agency that also helped students gain admission to college. In the 1960s, he was involved with an initiative called Project Enable, which helped nearly 500 families obtain street lights and sanitation services. Dr.Mohl isamemberof theNational Association of Social Workers, The New York Academy of Sciences, the International Psychohistorical Association, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work, the American Orthopsychiatric Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
