276 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION H aving always been interested in teaching and critical care, Dr. Kathleen Netzley Franco has shared her knowledge as an educator since 1979. Certified in geriatric psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, she has served as the director and a consultant-liaison of psychiatry for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation since 1993. To prepare for her career, she earned a Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Science from The Ohio State University, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toledo. She began a career in higher education as an associate dean of admissions and student affairs at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. She soon excelled in her profession, becoming the director of consult-liaisons of psychiatry and an assistant/ associate professor of psychiatry at Medical College of Ohio. Her work in the field earned her a Special Achievement Award from the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Association in 2017. In addition to her successful career in academia, Dr. Netzley Franco has been a mentor at the John Hay High School in Cleveland since 1992 and supported churches and homeless centers in her community. She attributes her success to her parents and teachers who have encouraged her to reach as high as she could. She was taught that you will find opportunities when you take risks and prepare yourself. Dr. Netzley Franco intends to continue teaching, but she hopes to turn over more of her administrative work and take on a greater leadership role. She has contributed articles to professional journals and is a member of the American Medical Women’s Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the American College of Psychiatrists.
