A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 281 G rowing up in Washington, D.C., an epicenter of historic political and social change in the U.S., Michelle Oldroyd aspired to become a law professor at Georgetown University. Nearly 20 years and two time zones later, she has accomplished her goal and then some. Currently an adjunct professor at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law and head of a commission administered by the lieutenant governor, she has built an impressive career in public service, academia and community outreach. After receiving a JD fromthe S.J. QuinneyCollege of Law, Ms. Oldroyd was president of the Young Alumni Board for several years, demonstrating leadership ability and a commitment to service. She then began working as a staff attorney with the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, gaining considerable experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. She is also a skilled legal researcher and writer who co- authored an article in the Utah Law Review titled “Restoration: A Component of Justice.” Since 2007, Ms. Oldroyd has taught service-learning courses at her alma mater and developed public education and community outreach programs for students to help thembecome more engaged with the legal system. That same year, she received the Utah State Bar’s Scott M. Matheson Award in recognition of her contributions to law-related education. She ismost grateful for the opportunity to teach and learn from a new generation of individuals who will be tomorrow’s policy makers and thought leaders. Also important to Ms. Oldroyd is balancing her career with her personal life. While involved professionally as a member of the Utah State Bar Association and board member for the Utah Council on Conflict Resolution, nothing brings her greater joy than being able to spend time and make memories with her husband and children.
