290 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION J onathan Patz has served as an adjunct associate professor of the department of environmental health sciences at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health since 2004. With over 20 years of professional experience, Dr. Patz has soared in the health and education fields. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College, a Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Public Health from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He began his career as a clinician of family medicine in Missoula, Mont., in 1990. After serving in that position for three years, he became professor for the department of population health sciences at the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and continued to flourish in the field. From 1993 to 1995 he worked for the World Health Organization as a consultant, task force member and lead author while also making a home at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he held several positions as a professor and research associate. Currently he serves as affiliate scientist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a position he has held since 2004. Throughout Dr. Patz’s career, he has reached many accomplishments. One of his greatest highlights is winning the Homer N. Calver Award in 2015. For more than 15 years he has served as a lead author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and also co-chaired the health expert panel of the U.S. National Assessment on Climate Change. He has contributed articles to professional journals and co-edited the five-volume Encyclopedia of Environmental Health. Dr. Patz has served on several scientific committees of the National Academy of Sciences and served as founding president of the International Association for Ecology and Health. He is committed to connecting colleagues from across campus and communities around the world to improve health for all and is continually striving to integrate his research into teaching for students, policy makers and the general public.
