A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 293 W ith experience in personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, brain injuries, paralysis and product liability cases, Gayle Gerling Pettinga has established a solid reputation as an attorney. After earning a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Smith College in 1984 and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1987, Ms. Pettinga was equipped to assist those in need of legal services. She has practiced with one of the leading firms in Indianapolis and one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Upon retiring, her father, who was a personal injury attorney, sold her the firm he founded in 1963. Since then, she has led the organization to continued success and expanded its locations to include Evansville, Indianapolis, Louisville and Owensboro. Though she has achieved much in the professional realm, Ms. Pettinga is most proud of her community involvement. In 2006, she launched the Gerling Law Great Helmet Giveaway, which has provided bicycle helmets to over 7,000 children in the area. She has also served on the board of directors of Holly’s House, which aids victims of abuse, and Gilda’s Club Evansville, a nonprofit that supports cancer patients. In recognition of her selfless work, Ms. Pettinga was a finalist for the 2009 Spirit of Giving Award presented by the Vanderburgh Community Foundation and a finalist for the Leadership of Evansville Celebration of Leadership Award. She contributed to the Indiana Law Journal and served on its editorial board as a senior note editor. Ms. Pettinga’s affiliations include The National Trial Lawyers, the American Association for Justice, the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, the Evansville Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, the Brain Injury Association of Indiana, the Smith College Alumnae Association, Crossroads Christian Church, the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.
