306 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION I nspired to enter the legal industry due to the influence of a judge who visited his family in his youth, the Hon. Ottie W. Reno never allowed the hardships of his childhood to define his ambitions. After graduating valedictorian of his high school class, he attended Franklin University, where he graduated with an AA in business administration in 1949. Thereafter, he received an LLB from Franklin Law School in 1953 and a JD from Capital University in 1966. After gaining valuable experience in the field, he graduated from the University of Nevada in 1973. Judge Reno commenced his career as a recorder for Pike County, Ohio, while he was pursuing his JD in 1957. After graduating from the University of Nevada, he went on to serve as a common pleas judge in the Probate and Juvenile Division of Pike County, a role he held for six subsequent years. Following this role, he founded his private practice, which he operated since 1979. He was admitted to practice law in the state of Ohio. A member of the Pike County Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Ohio Bar Association, Judge Reno received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Youth Commission, as well as six Outstanding Judicial Service Awards from the Ohio Supreme Court. As one who enjoyed horseshoe pitching in his spare time, Judge Reno had for 59 years held the world record for attending the World Horseshoe Pitching Championship and won the world title in his class on two occasions. He authored several books on the subject, including “Story of Horseshoes,” “Pitching Championship Horseshoes” and “The American Directory of Horseshoe Pitching.” He was inducted into the Ohio Senior Olympics Hall of Fame in 2008. However, traveling to South Africa to represent the United States in Jukskei, a horseshoe sister game, was an especially exciting part of his life. HON. OTTIE W. RENO, ESQ.
