A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 309 D r. Mary Beth Robinson became involved in her profession due to the profound influence of her grandmother, who was an educator. Although her mother was a stay-at-home spouse and her father was a commercial airline pilot, Dr. Robinson found her passion in education and decided to take on a full-time career in the field. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in German and economics from the University of California, Los Angeles; a Master of Education from Stanford University; and a Doctor of Education from The Ohio State University. She has been certified as a general secondary teacher and a school administrator. After commencing her career as a secondary teacher in the Berkeley Unified School District in 1966, Dr. Robinson rose through the ranks, her dedication to seeing her students succeed not going unnoticed. She most recently served as chair of the department of foreign language, a teacher of German and English as a second language, an American literature teacher, and an instructional coach for beginner teachers in the Centinela Valley Union High School District in Lawndale, California. She was also a reading specialist, education coordinator, federal program evaluator, lecturer and teaching evaluator. Dr. Robinson believes in the power of her students’ success, and she provides opportunities and words of encouragement to morph them into the best versions of themselves. Grateful for the influential teachers she had growing up, she was also happy to witness the desegregation of the Berkeley Unified School District, the first district in the city to do so. Dr. Robinson, who is passionate about social reform and equality, volunteers in her spare time as a mentor to first-generation minorities who are applying to college. She is also a member of EMILY’s List, the largest national resource for women in politics. Dr. Robinson has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue working with EMILY’s List.
