316 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION H onor and a strong work ethic were two qualities that Eddye J. Royal’s immigrant parents and grandparents instilled in him from an early age. Both served as a backbone for him to embark on the two career paths he’s followed as an adult. Mr. Royal is a system engineer for multinational information technology company Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and a police officer for the federal government. In both roles, he strives to give back to the community around him, mentor others, and implement change, all in the hardworking way his family hoped he would. At Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, he manages computer operations in call centers, installs software and hardware, troubleshoots computers, conducts research, and acts as a consultant. As a federal officer, he oversees cyber security measures. Prior to his current positions, he served as a E4 (P) communication administrator and computer specialist in the U.S. Army, which followed time spent on his high school’s ROTC team. He was a member of the VII Corps Artillery for Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield during the Gulf War, and his service earned him a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Royal, a security certified network specialist, attributes his success, in part, to his faith; waking up each morning and praying prepares him to accomplish the day’s work and mentor those around him. He also takes the lessons he’s learned from past mistakes and uses them, along with his knowledge of business, to devise new ideas daily. Mr. Royal is pursuing a master’s degree in information technology assurance from the University of Fairfax. He earned a Bachelor of Science in information systems from Amberton University in 1997 and an associate degree in information systems from Eastfield College in 1988. A member of the National Black Police Association and the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, he also enjoys amateur photography, retro music and Latin dancing when he is isn’t working with computers. In the near future, Mr. Royal would like to grow professionally, complete the requirements for his master’s degree, and pursue a PhD. EDDYE J.
