A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 327 F or more than three decades John Schulian used his creative talents to maintain a successful career as a writer for major networks and news outlets. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah in 1967 and a Master of Science from Northwestern University in 1968. Shortly after graduating, he began working as a copy editor for The Salt Lake Tribune and two years later became a reporter for The Baltimore Evening Sun. From 1975 until 1986 he branched into sports writing for several newspapers in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Philadelphia, including The Washington Post, the Chicago Daily News, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Philadelphia Daily News. In 1986, he transitioned into screenwriting as a staff writer and story editor for the television drama “Miami Vice.” He continued to thrive in his field, writing and co-producing for several popular series, including “Wiseguy,” “Midnight Caller,” “Reasonable Doubts,” “The Untouchables,” “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Lawless,” “JAG,” “The Outer Limits,” and “Tremors.” In addition to writing for media outlets, Mr. Schulian served as a special contributor to Sports Illustrated from 1998 to 2013 and was a professional in residence at his alma mater, the University of Utah, in 2004. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America, the Boxing Writers Association of America, the Pacific Coast League and the Baseball Reliquary. Mr. Schulian has received many accolades for his work, including theNational HeadlinersAward, theColumnWriting Award from the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Best Sports Stories Award, the Nat Fleischer Award for Excellence in Boxing Journalism from the Boxing Writers Association of America, and the PEN/ESPN Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Sports Writing from Pen America.
