A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 353 A t a young age, Flora Sowell found herself especially drawn to Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey, fictional characters brought to life on television as medical professionals faced with routine and occasionally extraordinary circumstances. After receiving a scholarship, Ms. Sowell took courses at Central Piedmont Community College and eventually became a licensed practical nurse. Having always had a particular affinity for the elderly, she drew upon more than 30 years of nursing experience and went into business for herself as a home health care provider for geriatric patients. In addition to caring for people in the comfort of their homes as a skilled nurse, Ms. Sowell likes to bring a bit of joy into their lives with her fun, quirky personality. She does this in part by wearing cat shirts on a regular basis and finding whatever ways she can to brighten someone’s day. One patient with whom she had formed an especially close connection even left Ms. Sowell a small inheritance upon her passing, which proved to be one of the most rewarding moments of her career. Ms. Sowell is affiliated with the National Association of Licensed Practical Nurses and the Alzheimer’s Association. She was recently featured in an article in The Charlotte Observer that praised her for her nursing skills and bedside manner. In the future, she hopes to travel more and continue providing outstanding care to patients. FLORA SOWELL OWNER Flo’s Home Health Care Charlotte, NC Millennium Magazine Featured Listee
