A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 35 A s an attorney with more than five decades of experience under his belt, David A. Affeldt has an intimate understanding of the ways in which the legal profession is directly affected by the current legislative climate. Early in his career, Mr. Affeldt became a legislative aide to Congressman Neal Smith of the U.S. House of Representatives in hopes of addressing big- picture issues and helping a large number of Americans by bringing about resolutions to these problems. He went on to serve as chief counsel of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging and as a special assistant to the commissioner of the U.S. Social Security Administration. During his time on Capitol Hill, Mr. Affeldt grew accustomed to working long and unusual hours to accommodate the ever-shifting schedule of Congress. Since 1980, Mr. Affeldt hasworked as a consultant for various national aging organizations. In this role, he aims to improve conditions for older Americans, especially with regard to the economy and health care, and to address the changing demographics andbiases surroundingaging inAmerica.Mr. Affeldt also maintains a private legal practice, through which he assists clients with concerns related to tax law and Social Security. In addition to ensuring that his clients receive all of the legal benefits they are entitled to, he also helps them understand how their taxdecisionswill impact their futures andhow to prepare for retirement. Mr. Affeldt is admitted to practice in theDistrict of Columbia, aswell asbefore several district courts. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Affeldt has authored numerous reports on the elderly, including “On the Other Side of Easy Street: A Report from the Villers Foundation.” In recognition of his contributions to this particular field of practice, he has received resolutions and certificates of commendation from several national aging organizations, as well as the U.S. Senate.
