A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 47 W hile many professionals choose to focus on one particular field of study, Daniel R. Baker has always been more interested in the process of learning and teaching what he has learned to others. Shortly after completing studies at Tufts University and earning a Bachelor of Arts fromBrooklynCollege, Mr. Baker launched a career as a mathematics teacher in the 1950s. In an effort to continue expanding upon his skill set, he joined Advanced Data Systems as a computer programmer in 1961. Mr. Baker went on to fill a variety of data-driven roles with different companies throughout the next decade, serving as a programmer analyst, senior mathematician, systems analyst and senior system analyst. It was during this time that he accidentally stumbled upon a somewhat deceptive newspaper advertisement for a job at a real estate firm. Ever the adventurous individual, Mr. Baker chose to apply, and the rest is history. Since 1970, Mr. Baker has maintained a successful career as a real estate broker. To prepare for this role, he completed postgraduate coursework through Fairleigh Dickinson University and American University, followed by a diploma from the Realtors Institute at the University of Virginia. Mr. Baker most recently served as the president of Data Associates. In this position, hewas responsible for overseeing the business, as well as developing software programs. Mr. Baker has been known to drawupon his previous experiences as an educator to foster learning in a professional setting. To this end, he has served as a group leader for Dale Carnegie Sales Training courses and as a volunteer for the Annual Fund Campaign of Tufts University. In recognition of his numerous achievements in the real estate sector, Mr. Baker was selected to receive several Lifetime Awards from Virginia Realtors in the 1990s and 2000s. He is noted as the former director of the organization, having served in this role from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1983 to 1997. DANIEL R.
