50 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION E velyn Carol Barrett attributes her profound success to the influence of her mother, who always encouraged her to do her best. Having had a substantial 43-year career prior to her retirement in 1990, she most recently served as head of the department of business education and a business education teacher at Merrimack High School. She was also an instructor at a community college, a clerk and stenographer in the department of physics at the University of Illinois, a typing instructor at Louisiana State University, and a bookkeeper and secretary at Keesler Air Force Base. In addition to teaching, Ms. Barrett has lent her time and expertise to her local community as an organizer and the first president of the Hillsborough County Extension Service’s Merrimack Group. She has also served as a cadet leader, senior troop leader, adult volunteer trainer and trip program consultant for the Swiftwater Council of the Girl Scouts of America. She has also maintained association with several organizations, such as the New Hampshire Business Education Association, the New Hampshire Education Association, the Eastern Business Education Association and Alpha Delta Kappa, where she served as the New Hampshire state president for two years. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to education, Ms. Barrett was honored with the Excellence in Education Award and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Merrimack Teachers Association, as well as the Chapter Award of Appreciation from Alpha Delta Kappa. She has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. Ms. Barrett holds a diploma from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, a Bachelor of Science from The University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master of Business Administration in accounting from Louisiana State University.
