Lucy Dekle Braun is an esteemed professional who has been serving as a counselor for Share the Care, Inc., since 2002. While serving in this role, she was an instructor for the Alzheimer’s Association for four years and an adjunct professor at Troy University for three years. Prior to these appointments, she held multiple positions within the realm of mental health, serving as a consultant for children and adolescent treatment services, the clinical director of the Response, Inc. sexual abuse treatment program, an advisory board member of the Florida Hospital Women’s Center, and a coordinator of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center beginning in 1983. As an adjunct professor in the College of Education, she taught for 17 years at the University of Central Florida. Equally passionate about her community, Dr. Braun has maintained affiliation with numerous civic outreach programs, such as the Junior League of Greater Orlando, the Arts Guild, the Orange County Medical Auxiliary and the Parent Resource Center. She is a certified disability management specialist, a licensed mental health counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a nationally certified counselor and a certified medical technologist. She also holds a BA in biology from Brenau University, an MA in counselor education from the University of Central Florida, and an EdD in mental health from the University of Florida. Throughout her career, Dr. Braun has written four books, with the most recent being “Personality Types of Abusive Parents” in 1993 and journal articles including “Why Children Fight” in 1992. Focusing her attention on the outcomes of adolescent behavior following exposure to childhood adversity, she is a leading expert on childhood trauma, including abuse and neglect. She has been a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Braun has accrued multiple accolades, including the Outstanding Alumna Award and Alumnus of the Year from Brenau University in 2006. Preceding these awards, she was honored with the Community Service Award fromWalt Disney World in 1987.
