72 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION A s senior counsel at Perkins Coie, Joseph E. Bringman possesses more than three decades of experience in commercial litigation. Focusing his practice on securities litigation and corporate governance litigation, he also has substantial experience in insurance recovery litigation, appellate litigation, and defense of qui tam fraud claims, and is beginning to develop experience in antitrust litigation. Before joining Perkins Coie in 1985, Mr. Bringman taught the Basic Legal Skills course at the University of Washington School of Law, where he served two years as an acting assistant professor. Mr. Bringman frequently provides pro bono assistance to prisoners and organizations that support prisoners. In late 2018, for example, he submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of 20 civil rights advocacy organizations that sought to convince the court to overturn Florida’s regulations preventing inmates from receiving Prison Legal News, which publishes news of legal developments pertinent to the protection of prisoners’ rights. Mr. Bringman has played a prominent role at the King County Bar Association (KCBA), of which he is a former president. During his presidency, Mr. Bringman sought to expand the association’s involvement in public policy issues, including urging it to take a public position calling for abolition of the death penalty, which the board of trustees did shortly after his term ended. Mr. Bringman has received the President’s Award from the KCBA and is currently one of two KCBA-appointed members of the board of trustees of the Public Law Library of King County. The recipient of a BA in political science from Yale University and a JD from Stanford University, Mr. Bringman is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington. He was elected a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and holds an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
