A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 75 A t a young age Judith Gwyn Brown’s passion for drawing sparked her interest in becoming an artist. To prepare for her career, Ms. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts from New York University in 1956 and completed postgraduate work at the Parsons School of Design in 1957. With a focus on men and women moving through light, space and the shadows of intimate and mysterious settings, she began her career working for a printing house. During her tenure with the company, she learned the technical aspects of book designing and offset printing by working with paste-ups and book jackets from 1958 to 1960. Well-versed in pen, ink, charcoal, crayon, watercolor and oil, Ms. Brown published her first book in 1962. Since then she has illustrated more than 30 children’s books and written six books as well. Her artwork is featured in the permanent collections of the Boston Public Library, The Morgan Library & Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Huntington Library, and university collections across the country. Her work has also been featured in a one-person show at The New York Public Library and is represented private collections. She has shared her knowledge of the field as a contributor to anthologies, periodicals and The New York Times. Today Ms. Brown works in a larger format, creating paintings primarily in oil on canvas with diverse subjects as their themes. She was featured in the 16 th edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
