Since 2018 he has been the owner of Darwin Bünger, Attorney at Law, his private firm located in the heart of Burlington, with a Fort Madison office. Prior to this illustrious role, Mr. Bünger served as a senior partner with Crowley, Bünger & Prill and Crowley, Bünger, Schroeder & Prill. In addition, he was a partner with Crowley, Bünger & Schroeder and Crowley & Bünger. He commenced his career as a partner with Kurth & Bünger beginning in 1969. Equally passionate about his community, he was president of the Bart Howard Foundation, Inc., for five years; a member and president of the Church Council; and president and board member of the I Club with the University of Iowa. He also served as a secretary and board member of the Burlington Baseball Association. Mr. Bünger holds a BA in history and business from Wartburg College and a JD from the University of Iowa. Admitted to practice law by the Iowa State Bar in 1966, he has also been admitted before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Throughout his career, Mr. Bünger has maintained affiliation with multiple professional organizations, such as the American Association for Justice, the Iowa Association for Justice, and the Iowa State Bar Association. As a result of his career success, Mr. Bünger has been named an AV Preeminent Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell and received the ILTA Public Justice Award in 1998. However, the highlight of his career was obtaining verdicts that were in excess of one million dollars in the 1990s. On Dec. 20, 2018, Mr. Bünger and his co-counsel obtained a $14,500,000 verdict in a wrongful birth case in Lee County, Iowa.
