A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 95 F or more than 40 years, Jerry J. Cox has dedicated his career to the practice of criminal defense law. As a sole practitioner, Mr. Cox is heavily involved with the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy, through which he has served on the faculty of the Trial Practice Institute. However, he is perhaps best known as the former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a role he proudly held from 2013 to 2014. In the present, Mr. Cox serves as treasurer of the organization, which aims to ensure justice and due process for persons accused of crime or other misconduct. Mr. Cox launched his career in criminal defense shortly after receiving a JD from the University of Kentucky in 1968. Following a brief stint in the U.S. Army, he began working as a sole practitioner in Kentucky, where he was later recognized as a Certified Criminal Specialist through the National Board of Trial Advocacy. An active voice in the legal community, he has contributed articles to numerous professional publications, in addition to serving as a lecturer in the field and maintaining involvement with industry organizations. Mr. Cox has served as a trustee of the Foundation for Criminal Justice since 2009 and as chairman of the Public Advocacy Commission since 2010. His previous appointments include serving as a member of the Public Advocacy Commission and a member of the Drug Strategy Committee for the Kentucky Criminal Justice Council. In recognition of his unwavering dedication to his clients, Mr. Cox was selected to receive the Nelson Mandela Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy in 2002. He has received additional honors from the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Kentucky Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. JERRY J.
