116 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION G rowing up, Henry E. Dugan Jr. had no interest in being a business person; instead, he had a desire to help people and felt that a career in lawwould help him accomplish that goal. As a managing partner and founder of Dugan, Babij, Tolley & Kohler, LLC, he focuses on helping victims win medical malpractice cases. His ultimate goal is to try to give victims without a voice an accomplishment. Prior to embarking on a career in law, he pursued his passions of giving back and helping the disadvantaged as a former member of the Christian Brothers, a religious order founded to teach the poor. Mr. Dugan also taught inner-city youth as a high school teacher in Baltimore, MD. The first member of his family to attend college, Mr. Dugan paid for his legal education by working as a well digger, iron worker and oil burner mechanic. He subsequently earned a JD from the University of Maryland in 1973. Throughout his career, he has obtained many multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements in difficult medical malpractice and product liability cases across the country. The highlight of his career was being able to help and represent the families of babies who suffered brain damage at birth due to medical negligence. In addition to holding an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell, he has received America’s Top 100 Attorneys ® Lifetime Achievement award, been named one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America by the National Trial Lawyers Association, and been named to Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers. He has also been honored as Lawyer of the Year in Medical Malpractice Law for the Baltimore area by Best Lawyers and Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Maryland Association for Justice Inc., among other honors. Mr. Dugan attributes his success to his good fortune, as well as the support of his parents, teachers, partners and family, and hopes to be able to continue helping people in the coming years. He has two children, Brandon Teague Dugan and Camille Campanile, and is the proud grandfather of three grandsons and a granddaughter. As a testament to his profound success, he was highlighted in the 71 st edition of Who’s Who in America, published in 2018. HENRY E. DUGAN JR.
