120 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION D r. Betty J. Edwards is a prominent obstetrician- gynecologist with an impeccable record of patient satisfaction, which she has earned over the span of nearly four decades. Growing up in a household with a father who was experienced in the oil and gas industries and a mother who specialized in nursing, Dr. Edwards was partially influenced by her parents’ professions, as well as the science books that were in her childhood home. As an obstetrician-gynecologist for Champions Women’s Center since 1981, she has provided health care in an array of areas, with special attention paid to women’s health and fitness. Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Edwards has been an esteemed educator in her field, serving as a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology and an instructor of medical students and residents at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston since 1989 and 2002, respectively. Dr. Edwards earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Texas in 1971 and obtained a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1976. She completed an internship at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo from 1976 to 1977 and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston from 1977 to 1980. She is a certified obstetrician-gynecologist. A fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Dr. Edwards also maintains membership with the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. In recognition of her accomplishments, she has been honored as a Super Doctor and received the Medical Student Teaching Award from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
