A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 137 R obin Fox entered his profession because he desired to understand the impact World War II had on a global scale and thus studied the works of Arnold J. Toynbee, Oswald Spengler and Friedrich Nietzsche. He attended the University of London, earning a Bachelor of Science in sociology and a Doctor of Philosophy in anthropology in 1957 and 1965, respectively. Soon thereafter, he immigrated to the United States and traveled to New Mexico, where he studied the Pueblo Indians, particularly their culture regarding kinship and marriage. He has since become a specialist in the evolution of behavior. For the past three decades years, Dr. Fox has served as a university professor in social theory at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Prior to this appointment, he was a professor of anthropology at the university from 1967 to 1984, a lecturer in social anthropology at the London School of Economics from 1963 to 1967, and a lecturer in sociology at the University of Exeter from 1959 to 1963. He commenced his career as a tutor in social relations at Harvard University from 1958 to 1959. Credited as the co-founder of the Human Behavior Evolution Society, Dr. Fox has contributed to numerous publications, including “Tory Islanders: A People of the Celtic Fringe.” Earlier in his career, he was a prestigious postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University Medical School and was also involved in the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation’s research program. In addition, he has been a consultant with the U.S. Department of Defense since 1970. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to anthropology, Dr. Fox was presented with an honorary doctorate in anthropology and Irish studies from Ulster University in 1997. Additionally, he was featured in the 64th edition of Who’s Who in America. Married to Lin S. Fox since 1982, Dr. Fox has three children, five grandsons and two great-grandsons.
