A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 141 L icensed by the American College of Physicians in New York and Massachusetts, Dr. Eli A. Friedman has specialized in treating diseases of the kidneys for over five decades. Dr. Friedman began honing his medical skills as an American Heart Association research fellow at Harvard University from 1958 to 1960 and continued as an intern in medicine at Harvard Medical School from 1957 to 1958 before completed his training as a senior resident in medicine at Peter Brent Brigham Hospital. With newfound experience, he began imparting his knowledge to future nephrologists at several institutions, serving as an instructor of medicine and assistant professor of medicine at Emory University, an assistant professor of medicine and associate professor at DownstateMedical Center, and a professor of medicine and distinguished teaching professor at the State University of New York Health Science Center. In addition to his role as a nephrologist, Dr. Friedman has been a visiting professor at Vanderbilt University and a George E. Schreiner lecturer at Canisus College. He has also served on the board of directors of the Brooklyn Nephrology Foundation, the Cleveland Foundation, and the American Bureau Medical Aid to China. He has shared his knowledge as an author of various books on various nephrology topics, an editor of the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications, and the author of numerous articles appearing in professional journals. Dr. Friedman remains an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology and the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs. Dr. Friedman has received many awards and accolades for his contributions to the field and earned a Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn College, as well as a Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center.
