144 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION A s the president and chief executive officer of G2 Educational Services, Inc., Dr. Mary Lou B. Gammon works with academic institutions, particularly small schools that have few resources and require improvement due to a lack of compliance with state or federal standards. In addition, she trains educators; performs consulting work; and helps develop policies, evaluations and administrative duties to refine the educational process. With more than 40 years of experience in the field, Dr. Gammon has taught students of all ages, from kindergarten to college. A former English teacher with the Peace Corps in Venezuela, she is presently an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University, where she teaches leadership and literacy. To prepare for her celebrated career, Dr. Gammon first received a Bachelor of Arts in education from the University of Arizona in 1964. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1970, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in secondary education with a concentration in reading and English as a second language from the University of Arizona in 1980. The former president of the National Rural Education Association, Dr. Gammon maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Literacy Association. She has also been a longtime member of Phi Delta Kappa International and Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. Passionate about her community, she has been president of the Tucson Regional Ballet board of directors and spends her spare time volunteering with local police and fire departments, as well as Habitat for Humanity International. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to education, Dr. Gammon was honored with the Rural Superintendent of the Year Award in 1993 and inducted into the Rural Hall of Fame in Arizona in 1996.
