A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 189 J ohn Wright Ingraham was one of six graduates from Harvard Business School who joined First National City Bank. Since then, Mr. Ingraham has amassed 60 years of professional experience in banking. Beginning his career in 1957, he served with Citigroup in junior lending positions before climbing the corporate ladder to become head of institutional recovery management, deputy chairman of the credit policy committee, and senior vice president of oversight for North American lending. From 1985 to 1988, he was senior vice president and a member of the credit policy committee for Latin American and investment banks. As the current managing director of corporate risk for Citigroup, he has been mentored by many experts in the field, including P. Henry Mueller of the credit policy function, and George Moore and Walter Winston, who served as chief executive officer in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively. One of Mr. Ingraham’s most unique accomplishments was the successful reorganization in 1978 of the Penn Central railroad, which was then the seventh-largest company in America after going bankrupt in 1970. His work involved collaborating with a federal task force on restructuring the railroads in the United States, particularly the eastern ones, and took about five or six years to complete. Mr. Ingraham continues to be active in banking by helping with the restructuring of mortgage markets. He is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Robert Morris Associates, the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York, and the Piping Rock Club.
