After considering a career as a pharmacist, Dr. Jeffries went to college with ROTC training and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Georgia in 1950. He was then commissioned into the infantry of the U.S. Army, but ultimately decided to join the Medical Service Corps. By the time he was discharged from active service, Dr. Jeffries had been promoted to the position of laboratory officer. He subsequently completed postgraduate studies at the University of Tennessee, receiving a Master of Science in 1955 and a PhD in 1958. Early inhiscareer,Dr. Jeffriesbegansharingwhat he had learned as an instructor of microbiology at Wayne State University. Throughout the next decade, he rose through the ranks as an associate professor and associate of dermatology before being recognized as a professor with the university in 1970. Maintaining this position until 1996, Dr. Jeffries has also assisted the School of Medicine as director of graduate programs and assistant dean for curriculum affairs. He relocated to Roseau, the capital of Dominica, to serve as a professor and chair of the department of microbiology and immunology at the Ross University School of Medicine, assuming the role of dean of basic sciences in 1997. One year later, he was promoted to dean of the university and remained in this role until the turn of the century. Dr. Jeffries enjoyed brief stints as a guest lecturer before joining the College of Health Professions at Davenport University as an adjunct instructor in 2005. As a medical professional, Dr. Jeffries has enjoyed observing the ways in which DNA technologies have evolved over time to provide more effective diagnoses and therapeutic treatments. The former president of the Saline Area Senior Council, he continues to maintain involvement with the nonprofit organization as a volunteer. B orn and raised in Rome, Georgia, Dr. Charles D. Jeffries began considering a future in scientific endeavors shortly after graduating from high school. He gained preliminary laboratory experience while working a summer job with a warehouse group at a hospital, where he was also afforded the opportunity to handle CHARLES D.
