196 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION B efore his retirement in 1990, Richard W. Jenkins served the United States Army for 23 years. Mr. Jenkins’ choice to pursue a career in the military was influenced by his family, which has a strong service background. He is a third- generation Army serviceman with a legacy dating back to the Civil War and the Battle of Mobile Bay. Mr. Jenkins served in Vietnam as a combat photographer between 1967 and 1968 and in Korea between 1980 and 1982. He is also a Cold War veteran who served in Germany, Korea and Panama. One of Mr. Jenkins’ most memorable achievements was managing Korean and Panamanian television and radio services on Armed Forces Radio as chief of maintenance for both networks. As such, he was also responsible for overseeing satellite communications. He has received many accolades and awards for his honorable service, including being a two-time recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and a three- time recipient of the Commendation Medal from the United States Army. He also received a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, a Korea Defense Service Medal, a Cold War Recognition Certificate, the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross with Silver Device, German Army Bronze and Silver Shooting Star Awards, and the German Army Reserve Silver Honor Pin. Mr. Jenkins earned an Associate of Science in applied science in electrical engineering technology from Erie Community College. He was featured in the 71 st edition of Who’s Who in America in 2018. He attributes his success to his self-motivation and hopes to teach at the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center in the coming years while continuing to assist other veterans. RICHARD W.
