A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 221 D r. Richard Dale Land brings more than 50 years of professional experience in seminary work to his current role. He became involved in his profession because he was raised in a devout Southern Baptist home and sought admission to the U.S. Military Academy at the age of 16, when God called him into a different army. When God called him, it was made very clear that the burden put on his heart was America. Dr. Land began preaching at the age of 16 and perceived himself as a missionary to America for the duration of his ministry. Throughout his career, his goal has been to follow in the words of the Apostle Paul, who said, “I am innocent of the blood of all of you, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” Dr. Land graduated from Princeton University, magna cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts. He continued his education, subsequently obtaining a Master of Theology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. He began his career as a professor teaching theology and ethics at the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, N.C., before serving as a pastor at Vieux Carre Baptist Church and South Oxford Baptist Church. Dr. Land continued to gain prominence in prestigious positions, including serving as president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary for 25 years, a highlight of his career. In addition to his service in the church and the academic field, he helped establish The Richard Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, which aims to open doors for the study and research of ethics, public policy, and other cultural and philosophical issues. Dr. Land attributes his success to God, whom he believes gifted him with his potential, and to whom he dedicates his life’s work.
