304 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION B efore embarking on a career in the medical field, Dr. Robert R. Recker originally wanted to be a veterinarian, since he grew up on a farm. However, while attending Creighton University, he was influenced to study endocrinology by his mentor, Dr. Robert Heaney, and subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1963. He practiced medicine as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1967. Upon completing his service, he returned to the Jesuit institution, where he continued honing his skills as a fellow and later served as director of the Osteoporosis Research Center. His hard work and dedication have led him to obtain positions as a professor of medicine, division chief of endocrinology, and associate dean of research, roleshe has held since 1971, 1974 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Recker has reached many achievements throughout his career, including becoming the O’Brien Endowed Chair in Health Sciences in 2016 and being commended by Creighton University for his outstanding performance as a faculty member. He was also recognized as one of America’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly from 2006 to 2014, but his proudest moment, however, was being named director of the Osteoporosis Research Center. Alongside his work at the university, he served as vice president and now president of the National Osteoporosis Foundation. He has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World. Dr. Recker is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American Medical Association, as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. ROBERT R.
