A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 311 JAIRO RODRIGUEZ, MD DOCTOR Benchmark Pulmonary Center Brownsville, TX A fter deciding he would pursue a career as a physician at just 12 years of age, Dr. Jairo Rodriguez worked tirelessly to make his dream a reality. Today, he holds a Master of Jurisprudence from Loyola University, an MBA from Amherst University, and an MD from the National University of Colombia, the latter of which he earned in 1987. Dr. Rodriguez also completed training as a resident at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he ultimately chose to focus on the field of pulmonology, a medical specialty dealing with diseases involving the respiratory tract. Since 2001, Dr. Rodriguez has maintained a private practice with the Benchmark Pulmonary Center, integrating his training in pulmonology and critical care to provide patients with the highest standards of evaluation and treatment. He is well-known by both patients and peers for his care, compassion and ever-expanding knowledge in his profession, which includes the management of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer, as well as diagnostic testing and lung function testing. In recent years, his practice has expanded to include six doctors and three nurse practitioners operating out of two offices. Benchmark Pulmonary Center now includes the South Texas Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center and the Dreamland Sleep Disorders Center, the first and only sleep disorders center certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in Brownsville. Qualifying patients are provided with equipment and supplies through South Texas Durable Medical Equipment, provided they are under the care of a physician. Convenient access ensures that all patients are able to receive the medical care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. As a physician, Dr. Rodriguez takes the greatest pride in his ability to communicate with his patients while also taking the time to listen to the needs of the family. One of his favorite aspects of his job has been meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, making his close proximity to the border of Mexico quite enjoyable.
