314 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION Dr. Carl E. Rosow is a prominent anesthesiologist, educator and researcher who has been affiliated with Harvard Medical School as a course director in pharmacology since 2007 and a professor of anesthesiology since 2003. He developed an interest in the field of anesthesiology due to its application of pharmacology to the human population. In addition to these appointments, he has also been an anesthetist at Massachusetts General Hospital since 1994 and a course director and principal of pharmacology with Harvard-MIT Health Science and Technology since 1994. He commenced his career as an adjunct associate professor of pharmacology at the Boston University School of Medicine in 1984 and has been an adjunct associate professor of anesthesia since 1986. To prepare for his career, Dr. Rosow pursued formal education at Boston University, where he earned an MD and PhD. After completing an internship at the MetroWest Medical Center, he subsequently obtained a residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. After making significant strides in his industry, he received an honorary master’s degree fromHarvard University. He is a certified physician through the Medical Board of California and has been certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. A contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Rosowhas also been an editorial boardmember of the International Anesthesia Research Society since 2007 and an associate examiner with the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1986. He previously served as chairman of the anesthesiology expert committee for United States Pharmacopeia in Rockville, Maryland, for five years and was an elected member of the Joint Committee on Training Examiners for a decade. Dr. Rosow has received multiple accolades, including the Paul Janssen Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Anaesthetic Pharmacology, the Michael Dykes Distinguished Lectureship Award from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and the Robertazzi Memorial Lecture Award from the NewYork State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc.
