346 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION G ary F. Smith has over 40 years of professional experience as a litigator. Mr. Smith became involved in his profession after coming from a humble, blue-collar background and developing skills as a debater. His family always commented on how successful he would be practicing law, and he dreamed of attending law school since the fifth grade. His dream came to fruition, and in 1973, he earned a Juris Doctor from Fordham University. Admitted to the New York State Bar on December 20, 1974, Mr. Smith began his career as an attorney with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. After serving in that position for one year, he worked with the firm of Koozman & Hartman as an associate and later became partner. From 1979 to 1986, he ran a private practice in Westbury, N.Y. Mr. Smith currently serves as sole practitioner of Gary F. Smith, Attorney at Law in Hauppauge, N.Y., a firm that specializes in estate planning and administration, commercial law, real estate, operations of religious/not-for-profit organizations and personal injury litigation. Mr. Smith’s hard work and dedication earned him the Phi Beta Kappa Award from the Long Island Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association. Additionally, he earned a membership in the Cornelian Honor Society at Iona College, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts. He is affiliated with the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association and Phi Alpha Delta. Mr. Smith was featured in the 24th and 25th editions of Who’s Who in the East in 1992 and 1994, respectively, as well as the 71st edition of Who’s Who in America in 2018.
