A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 347 B efore John “Jack” Carl Smith dealt with projects involving the valuation of imports and exports, duty reliefs, tariff classification, duty preferences and legal restructuring, he served in the United States Air Force and received certification from the Air Education and Training Command of the Air Force Reserve. In preparation for his career, he received a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio University in 1954. He also completed coursework and postgraduate coursework at Baldwin Wallace University. Shortly after ending his service with the Air Force, he began working as a representative for Flyer Tiger Line, Inc. From 1961 to 1990, he made headway in a new field, serving first as principal of Publishing Representative Business and later as a publisher with Penton Publishing in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1990, Mr. Smith has been a special advisor to the American Foreign Policy Council in Washington, D.C. He also worked as a director of national distribution terminals for the Central Cleveland Corporation. Mr. Smith has extended himself as a public servant in various capacities, including serving as trustee of a presidential task force, the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle Council of Logistics Management, and the United States Business and Industry Council. He is member of the American Management Association, the Material Handling Institute, the American Trucking Associations, the National Council of Physical Distribution Management, the Association of Magazine Media and the Society of Professional Journalists. Mr. Smith has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
