Snyder’s two most recent books are “Baltimore and Ohio: The Passenger Trains andServices of America’s First Common-Carrier Railroad, 1827-1971” and “Maigret Times Three.” He established a career exceeding four decades in the fields of writing and editing, beginning with the U.S. Civil Service Commission in Washington, D.C., in 1974. He ended his run in the government as a writer and editor for the U.S. National Park Service in 1981. From there, he served a number of publications focused on archaeological and anthropological matters. With a long-standing interest in military and naval matters, Mr. Snyder worked for the Navy League in the 1980s and occasionally wrote material for them. Setting up a nonprofit to preserve and restore the century-old train station in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, he succeeded in preventing the demolition of the structure and obtaining funding to restore the building. Now, the building is being used as a community gathering center. Mr. Snyder holds a BA in anthropology from The George Washington University and an MA in anthropology from the University of New Mexico. A contributor of myriad articles to popular magazines across the nation, he has also authored a number of books, including “1859: Turning Point of the Modern Era” in 2001. He was also the associate editor of the Athena Review from 1999 to 2010. A self-proclaimed community servant, Mr. Snyder takes pride in his contributions to his community through his writing, reporting and involvement in public service. He attributes his profound success to his father, a career-long civil servant; his sister, a renowned writer in Ireland; and his wife, also a writer and editor in the medical field as well as an ultimate inspiration and pillar of support. Due to his service during the Vietnam War as a U.S. Army intelligence officer, he was decorated with a Bronze Star and Army Commendation with oak leaf cluster. He was also highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
