352 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION D iplomate of the American Board of Dermatology Nicholas Soter has dedicated over 30 years of professional experience to the field of dermatology. As a professor of dermatology, Dr. Soter imparts his expertise on the subjects of psoriasis, light therapy, vitiligo, cutaneous lymphoma, hives, photosensitivity, and itching to undergraduate and graduate students for the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University School of Medicine. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University in 1961 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas in 1965. Before becoming the prominent dermatologist he is today he honed his skills completing an internship in internal medicine from Boston University Medical Center, a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and residency at Baylor College of Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Soter has done extensive research in the areas of mast cell biology, inflammatory mediators in dermatologic diseases, urticaria, angioedema, cutaneous necrotizing vasculitides, mastocytosis, and photosensitivity. He has shared much of his research in articles published in professional journals in the field and has received many awards and accolades for his contribution to the field, including being included in the 3rd through 14th editions of America’s Top Doctors. Dr. Soter remains a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Academy of Dermatology as well as a member of the Hellenic Society of Dermatology and Venereology and Venereology, the British Association of Dermatologists, the New York Dermatological Society, where he served as president from 1996 to 1997, the American Dermatological Association, the American Association of Immunologists, and the Society For Investigative Dermatology, where he served as vice president from 1996 to 1997. He is also a former member of the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York. Dr. Soter served as a major in the US Army from 1969 to 1971 and has been featured in the 65th edition of Who’s Who in America.
