A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 355 D r. Wolf H. Stapelfeldt is an expert in the development of models that describe the risks of morbidity and mortality associated with surgery. As a tenured professor and department chairman at Saint Louis University, he has been credited with introducing the SLUScore, a novel method to quantify the adverse effects of lower-than-normal blood pressure, which is a common occurrence under anesthesia. In recognition of his expertise on anesthesiology and organ transplantation, he earned a seat on the education board of the American Health Council. Dr. Stapelfeldt became involved in his profession because of his love for real-time physiology and pharmacology. Before working at Saint Louis University, he served as chairman of the department of anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic. His tenure at the hospital culminated with his assuming the roles of founder and chief medical officer of Talis Clinical, LLC, an information management company spun off from the Cleveland Clinic. Talis Clinical’s software distills and analyzes themost important data sources in real time to guide physicians in making decisions within the high-stress environments of operating rooms and intensive care units. One of the company’s applications was recognized as one of the top 10 innovations in medicine during the 2014 Cleveland Clinic Innovation Summit. Additionally, he has many patents and trademarks related to clinical decision support technology. Dr. Stapelfeldt hopes and strives for a substantial reduction in the significant postoperative morbidity and mortality that commonly ensues in the days, weeks and months following surgery and anesthesia.
