364 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION T he grandson of a businessman, William B. Swearer has always been interested in corporate law. Mr. Swearer decided to pursue a legal career at an early age, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in 1951 followed by two years of service with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning to the United States from Korea, Mr. Swearer completed a Bachelor of Laws through the University of Kansas in 1955. He has since been admitted to practice in Kansas, as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Kansas and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He was previously involved with the Interstate Commerce Commission. With more than six decades of legal experience under his belt, Mr. Swearer remains committed to Martindell Swearer Shaffer Ridenour LLP, where he practices in the areas of business, banking and corporation; education; and estate planning and administration, wills and trusts. Although he takes great pride in his professional work, Mr. Swearer finds the greatest joy in simply helping others, especially his clients. He was a member of the Kansas Board of Discipline for Attorneys from 1979 to 1992 and chair of the board from 1987 to 1992. Throughout his career, Mr. Swearer has been active with a wide range of legal organizations, including the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Association of School Attorneys, of which he previously served as president. He is also a former state chair of the American Bar Foundation, a position he held from 1998 to 2002. From 2003 to 2015, Mr. Swearer served as a member of the Kansas Commission on Judicial Qualifications. He has been profiled in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World. Outside of his professional roles, Mr. Swearer is a dedicated member of the Hutchinson community, having served as president of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and as a board member of several local organizations. He has been married to his wife, Marilyn, since 1954. Together they have three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. WILLIAM B. SWEARER, ESQ.
