366 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION D r. Masaki Tan has operated on patients to treat injuries and illnesses for more than four decades. Since 2013, he has served as the director of NAKADA Geriatric Health and Welfare Facilities in Miyagi, Japan. Dr. Tan began his career as an assistant professor in the department of surgery at Tohoku University, where he served for 12 years. He continued to excel in the field, serving as head of the department of surgery for Iwate Ofunato Prefectural Hospital, Kitakami Prefectural Hospital and Iwate Prefectural Isawa Hospital. Prior to his current appointment, he was the director of Kitakamikiboen Geriatric Health and Welfare Facilities from 2011 to 2013. Dr. Tan earned a Bachelor of Medicine and a Doctor of Science fromTohoku University, as well as a Bachelor of Laws from Kindai University. In addition to holding membership in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the New York Academy of Science, and the International Society of Personalized Medicine, he has shared his expertise as the author of “Recent Advances in Chemotherapy” and “New Applications of OK-432.” He has been included in numerous volumes of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Asia, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World. Dr. Tan was recognized for his work in health care with the World Lifetime Achievement Award from ABI in 1999 and the Gold Star Award from IBC in 2000. He was featured in the Royal Book of Diplomacy and Science by the London Diplomatic Academy in 2005 and 2009. Dr. Tan enjoys reading, watching movies, listening to music, traveling and photography in his spare time.
