A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 403 F or nearly 50 years, Carolyn Raye Whitener has served as the owner of Clynn’s Designs in Oklahoma City. Throughout her career, Ms. Whitener has gained leadership experience as a co-owner of several companies, including Honk ‘n’ Holler, a drive-through business in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and W&W Cattle Ranch. As the proprietor of Honk ‘n’ Holler, she was one of the plaintiffs in the U.S. Supreme Court case Craig v. Boren, which hinged on an Oklahoma law that allowed women 18 and older to purchase “nonintoxicating” beer but restricted its sale to men under 21 years of age. On December 20, 1976, the court sided 7-2 with the plaintiff, concluding that the gender-based classifications in the law were unconstitutional, thus setting a precedent for gender- based discrimination. From 1979 to 2007 she served as a commercial artist and co-owner of Colorvision, Inc. before branching out of that role to become a motivational speaker. Since the beginning of her journey, she has spoken at colleges and universities across the nation and addressed national women’s groups on equal rights issues. She is an avid believer in giving back and often speaks on the topic, emphasizing the importance of not just receiving but also making a difference in the world. Additionally, she has been a commercial design consultant providing one- and two-dimensional rendered drawings for Rynn’s Lawncare and Landscaping since 1997. Ms. Whitener completed coursework at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. She has received many accolades for her work, including an Outstanding Community Service Award in 1992 and recognition as Woman of the Year by the Oklahoma City Council in 1997.
