406 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION F or almost two decades Valerie Wiener served the state of Nevada as a senator. Through hard work and dedication, Senator Wiener has helped to regulate laws and keep the citizens of Las Vegas, Clark County and Nevada safe. Knowledgeable and multifaceted, she has maintained a connection with the broadcasting industry as well, beginning her career as a producer for TV station KOMU-TV and later owning KFMS and KBMI radio stations in Las Vegas. She continued to rise, earning many leadership and production positions and authoring several books, including “Power Communications: Positioning Yourself for High Visibility,” “Gang Free: Friendship Choices for Today’s Youth,” “The Nesting Syndrome: Grown Children Living at Home,” “Winning the War Against Youth Gangs: A Guide for Teens, Families, and Communities,” “Positioning: Advancing Yourself as THE EXPERT” and “Power Master Handbook Series,” which includes five handbooks. She has also served as a contributing writer for The Pacesetter and ASAE’s Communications News. Senator Wiener’s experience and knowledge have given her unique insight into the political arena and assisted her while she served on legislative committees as well as having prior memberships with the Nevada anti-Bullying Task Force, the Nevada Commission on Aging, and the Technological Crime Advisory Committee. During her tenure creating and ratifying state laws and regulations, she was the first female assistant majority leader of state senate, the first woman to serve in a minority and majority leadership position, being a part of the first all- women’s legislative leadership team in United States history, the longest-serving woman in legislation born in Nevada, creating the bill for Nevada Youth Legislature in. During her eight legislative sessions, Senator Wiener sponsored 90 bills, 75 of which were signed into law. Since 2011, Senator Weiner has chaired the Nevada Youth Legislature Foundation. Since 2012, she has chaired the state’s Task Force on Alzheimer’s disease. In 2014 she founded PublicServiceNV, a nonprofit that focuses on the civil education and engagement of Nevada youth and has served as its president since then.
