412 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION C harles E. Wood is a lawyer who most recently operated a private practice in Southborough, Massachusetts, from 1978 until his retirement in 2018. Prior to this celebrated role, he was a teacher, coach and chair of the history department at the Bancroft School in Worcester between 1970 and 1978, having previously served as teacher, coach and co-chair of the minority recruitment program at the Fay School in Southborough between 1964 and 1970. He commenced his career as a staff assistant for the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C., in 1961. A lifetime fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Worcester County Bar Association, Mr. Wood also recently served the mentally ill population as a member of the board of directors of the Bridge of Central Massachusetts, Inc., from 1997 to 2018. Among the notable highlights of his career, he considers this experience to be a crowning achievement. The Bridge of Central Massachusetts is a charitable organization that has assisted more than 400 mentally ill individuals to transition to individual housing after being released from the hospital. In addition to his service with the Bridge, he was president of the Marlborough-Westborough Mental Health Association, Inc., in the late 1980s. Mr. Wood holds a BA from Brandeis University and a JD from Boston College, obtained in 1961 and 1966, respectively. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he is immensely passionate about his community, having served the city of Southborough as chair of the capital budget committee and Republican town committee, as well as member of the town finance committee. He is affiliated with the Massachusetts Bar Association and Massachusetts Bar Foundation and has been the treasurer of the central and western Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of Counsel for Children since 1995. Mr. Wood has been selected for inclusion in the 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America and several editions of Who’s Who in American Law.
