A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 429 R oy L. Beavers utilized his military expertise to maintain a career as a utilities executive for 64 years. After earning a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Missouri in 1952, Mr. Beavers became a commissioned ensign in the United States Navy that same year. With hard work and dedication, he advanced through the grades to become commander in 1966. His experience led him to work as an assistant naval attaché in Tokyo and nuclear weapons officer-in-charge on aircraft carriers. Before retiring in 2016, he was affiliated with the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Outside of his military career, he has served as a member of the board of the Missouri Community Betterment Educational Fund and on the board of the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals. His research on the effects of electromagnetic fields has allowed him to serve as an activist for numerous organizations against the ubiquitous presence of electromagnetic radiation. Mr. Beavers is the author of several articles in professional journals and the recipient of decorated Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals from the U.S. Naval Institute, as well as the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. BEAVERS A n innovative health care leader able to improve patient outcomes, Dr. Joyce Batcheller inspires health professionals to reach their full potential. She is an executive nurse advisor and leader at AMN Healthcare, an adjunct professor for the DNP program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, and a consultant for the ANA’s Nursing Knowledge Center. For 19 years, Dr. Batcheller served as the senior vice president and chief nursing officer of the largest health care system in Central Texas. Being able to create a compelling vision and structures that engage, empower and stimulate innovation is one of her unique talents. Two examples are the creation and implementation of a system-wide shared governance model and leading a pilot site for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s “Transforming Care at the Bedside” program, the principles of which were eventually implemented into patient care at all system facilities. Under Dr. Batcheller’s leadership, nine of the system hospitals achieved American Nurses Credentialing Center designations. She currently chairs the Healthcare System Excellence Expert Panel of the American Academy of Nursing and is on several editorial boards.
