A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 433 D r. Valerie C. Bryan is the Charles Stewart Mott Eminent Scholar in Community Education at Florida Atlantic University, where she is a distinguished figure in the field of adult and community education whose work has helped hundreds of individuals on the path to personal and professional development. Working alongside a team of dedicated administrators, stakeholders and community leaders, she is responsible for sourcing initiatives aimed at raising funds, encouraging research, and instituting programs that will be beneficial within the university and beyond. At FAU, where she currently teaches courses in adult learning, technology implementation, aging and executive leadership as part of the College of Education faculty, Dr. Bryan was previously a program consultant in the Division of Continuing Education. She also served as director of the Florida Institute for the Development and Enhancement of Adult Learning and collaborated with the Area Agency on Aging of Palm Beach/Treasure Coast on a program for senior adults. The recipient of a doctorate in educational leadership with a specialty in adult and community education, Dr. Bryan completed her thesis on the relationship between self-directed learning and workforce competency. With a lifelong passion for teaching, a knack for helping people, and a family who believed education to be of the utmost importance, Mr. Britt went on to pursue a career as an educator. He received ample support fromhis family and guidance fromhis principal, who helped him earn scholarships and grants. He obtained a BA in elementary education and MEd from the University of Arkansas. In 1973, he began teaching at Woodlawn Elementary School and took on a similar position 14 years later at Monticello Elementary School. He left elementary teaching in 2004 and has since served as an economic education specialist for the Little Rock branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Mr. Britt delved into postsecondary education as amath science center coordinator and adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas, as well as a master economics teacher for the Arkansas Council on Economic Education. He shared his knowledge as an author of the teacher’s guide “Economics of the Forest.” He received the Bessie B. Moore Economic Education and the Arkansas Math Teacher Award.
