A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 453 M otivated by his innate curiosity for the scientific world, Dr. J. Robb Grover first joined Brookhaven National Laboratory as a research associate in 1957. He went on to serve the facility as a chemist, eventually rising to the rank of senior chemist in 1978. In collaboration with the laboratory, Dr. Grover was responsible for many important scientific developments, such as the naming of the nuclear yrast levels and discovery of their importance in nuclear reactions. He is also credited with pioneering the use of short-lived radioactivity in molecular beams, in addition to being the first to successfully use radioactivity for detection in chemically reactive scattering experiments. The former chairman of the nuclear chemistry technology section of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Grover has enjoyed brief stints as a visiting professor in Japan and visiting scientist in Germany. He is also a talented author who has contributed numerous articles to professional journals throughout the course of his career. Most recently, Dr. Grover released an action and adventure novel titled “Portland’s Gold” in 2018. He continues to serve as a research collaborator with Brookhaven National Laboratory. ROBB GROVER, PHD N oted for her seasoned expertise in watercolor painting, Carolyn Grossé Gawarecki has always been generous about sharing her knowledge and skills with others. At the height of her career as an art instructor, she was in very high demand, with students often lining up well before dawn to secure a spot in a class limited to 20 people. Ms. Grossé Gawarecki has also received high praise from fellow artists and considers one of the greatest highlights of her career to be when she was elected to the National Watercolor Society, a rare honor. An alumna of Douglass College, she was more recently selected to receive the Douglass Society Award in 2010. Ms. Grossé Gawarecki completed additional coursework through the University of Colorado and the University of California, Berkeley, though she acknowledges her tenacity and enjoyment of her endeavors as the biggest contributors to her success. Her work has been represented in permanent collections in museums throughout the country, in addition to appearing in “Best of Watercolor” in 1995 and “Best of Watercolor Places” in 1996.
