A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 459 M otivated by the belief that art has the capacity to delight, challenge and inspire the ways in which people perceive the world, John B. Henry III pursued a career working in museums after realizing that they offer endless opportunities to present compelling artistic experiences. Throughout his career, he has been a planner, builder and director of the Columbus Museum, the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Flint Institute of Arts, where he has remained since 1996. Under Mr. Henry’s leadership, the Flint Institute of Arts has become the second-largest museum in the state of Michigan and one of the largest museum art schools in the nation. An expert in 20th- and 21st- century art history, he holds a BFA in sculpture from the University of South Carolina and an MFA in art history from the University of Mississippi. Mr. Henry has been honored with the President’s Award from the Flint Chamber of Commerce, named Man of the Year by the Arab American Heritage Council, and given the Institutional Achievement Award by the Michigan Museums Association. Henning is a senior scientist for the Harris Corporation, an international communications company where she has utilized her tactical communication skills to provide security solutions for various Harris products and service offerings. To prepare for her career, Dr. Henning earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in computer science from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD from Nova Southeastern University. Before obtaining her current position, she served as Harris’ network security manager for the Federal Aviation Administration’s telecommunication infrastructure program and worked for the National Security Agency, where she was responsible for handling information security and development. Dr. Henning, who has contributed to more than 50 publications and does public speaking in her field, believes in the power of knowledge and education. As a woman in today’s world, she attributes her success to working hard and having male mentors, which she believes has given her the credibility she now sustains in the industry.
