470 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION S pecializing in surgery of the eyelids, orbits and lacrimal system, Dr. Mark R. Levine is an oculoplastic and orbital surgeon with nearly four decades of experience. His focus on these specific areas of ophthalmology has allowed him to most effectively diagnose and treat a wide range of specific concerns that may be overlooked by other medical professionals. Dr. Levine is especially knowledgeable about systemic conditions, thyroid and collagen vascular disease that may cause eyelid and orbital problems, as well as trauma, tumors of eyelids and tumors behind the eye, droopy or baggy lids, and lacrimal tearing problems. Named among the Best Doctors in America since 1981, he is also recognized as an emeritus professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University, where he took great pride in sharing his understanding of his specialty with those pursuing a similar career path. To this end, Dr. Levine has authored over 200 articles and published three books in the field, including “Manual of Oculoplastic Surgery, 5th Edition.” He served as chief of ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1980 until the turn of the century. EMERITUS CLINICAL PROFESSOR Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, OH DR. MARK R. LEVINE I nterested in chemistry since high school, Dr. William Alexander Lester Jr. pursued the subject at the University of Chicago, earning a BS in 1958. He continued his studies at the university and received an MS in 1959 before obtaining a PhD from the Catholic University of America in 1964. While pursuing his doctorate, Dr. Lester was a physical chemist at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., in 1961 and subsequently went on to serve in myriad roles for a number of corporations and universities, including the University of Wisconsin- Madison; IBM; the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and the University of California, Berkeley, from which he retired as a professor of chemistry. Dr. Lester was director of the National Resource for Computation in Chemistry. In addition, he received an Outstanding Service Award from the National Science Foundation, an Outstanding Teacher Award and Percy L. Julian Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, and an Alumni Award in Science from the Catholic University of America.
