476 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION A prominent demographer, Dr. John F. May has spent his career researching the composition of the human population, including statistics related to birth, death, income, disease, distribution and migration. He delved into his profession in college while studying the demographic consequences of the Black Death that ravaged Belgium in the 16th century. Dr. May subsequently received a BA in modern history, a diploma in demography, and an MA in demography from the Université catholique de Louvain. He also holds a PhD in demography from Paris-Sorbonne University. Since 2008, Dr. May has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, as well as a visiting professor with several other institutions. Alongside his role in academia, he has aided the United Nations in Haiti and New Caledonia on demographics and was a lead population specialist on Africa with the World Bank Group. Dr. May has traveled to 132 countries on six continents and is the author of two books regarding demographic trends in Africa and other parts of the world. In recognition of his contributions to the study of population issues, he received the Global Media Award from the Population Institute in 2012. PROFESSOR Georgetown Univecrsity Washington, DC JOHN F. MAY, PHD I nfluenced and supported greatly by her father, Linda Suzanne Mason knew what her career aspirations were from an early age. After earning a BS and MS from Indiana University, she commenced her career as a physical education teacher at Woodview Junior High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1968. As her career progressed, she served in a similar capacity for several schools across Indiana, retiring from the profession in 2011 after serving as an elementary physical education teacher for Carmel Clay Schools. She was also a softball and basketball coach, namely serving as head coach of the Indiana Girls’ High School All-Stars basketball team in 1980. She dedicated 43 fruitful years to the field. As a testament to her success, Ms. Mason was named Coach of the Year for District 4 by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and Coach of the Year for Softball by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. She was most recently inducted into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017 and has been highlighted in multiple Who’s Who publications.
