A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 483 A leader of the environmental pragmatism movement, Dr. Bryan G. Norton has amassedmore than 45 years of experience in the fields of environmental science, higher education and philosophy. Having achieved the rank of distinguished professor emeritus at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2014, he was previously a distinguished professor; acting director of the philosophy, science and technology program; and professor in the School of Public Policy. Growing up on his family’s farm, Dr. Norton was interested in environmental issues from a young age. As an adult, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Michigan, seeking to integrate philosophy with environmental problems and contribute to the understanding of sustainability. He was responsible for the development of the environmental ethics position called “weak anthropocentrism,” as well as risk decision squares for environmental policy analysis. As a result of his groundbreaking work in the field, Dr. Norton received the National Winner Award in Environmental Affairs and was chosen as a Gilbert White Fellow at Resources for the Future in 1986. NORTON T o escape loneliness as a child, Patricia Nix began creating art at the age of 3 and completed her first oil painting at 11. Ms. Nix studied at the Art Students League of New York and resided in New York City and Paris for years before settling in and working from her studio in Palm Beach, Fla. Throughout her career she has exhibited her work at one-woman shows in New York City, Washington and Connecticut and in galleries abroad. Most recently, her work was featured in group shows at the Merrill Chase Galleries, the American Embassy in Rome, as well as galleries in the Bahamas, Namibia and Slovenia. Ms. Nix has been praised by many, including Boca Raton Magazine, which said her work is “the right kind of crazy” and a Miami paper that described how her work “danced at the intersection of surrealism and madness.” In addition to her career in the arts, she was a member of the Nassau County Museum in 2014. Ms. Nix is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Design and has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
