506 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION W ith almost 40 years in computer engineering and 23 years as UPS’ lead data security analyst, Rachel Ann Weiss attributes her success to her tenacity and long-range vision, as well as her mentors, sponsors and coaches. She began her career after receiving a Bachelor of Science in electric engineering and computer science, as well as a Master of Business Administration for scientists, engineers and technical executives. In her current position, she is responsible for mentoring a team of six individuals, taking care of mid-range platforms, and managing and auditing access controls on over 2,000 servers on a daily basis. Ms. Weiss has been a ham radio operator since 1968 and has an amateur radio extra license. She works with the office of emergency management as a communications coordinator, specifically, as a net control operator, and was named Amateur Radio Operator of the Year in November 2015. She is also a member of IEEE and several other organizations in order to remain involved in her industry and field of study. Looking to the future, Ms. Weiss hopes to continue being open and ready to embrace whatever challenges may come her way. Wauer has more than six decades of experience in park management, having served various national parks across the United States since 1957. Commencing his career as a park naturalist for the Death Valley National Monument, he subsequently lent his expertise to Zion National Park, Big Bend National Park, the Southwest Region National Park Service, the U.S. National Park Service, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Caribbean National Park Service before ending his career in 1989. Since 1995, Mr. Wauer has served on the board of trustees of the National Parks Conservation Association, having formerly been a board member of the National Academy of Sciences. Throughout his career, he has authored more than 25 books, including “Wild Critters I Have Known” in 2018. In addition, he has contributed myriad articles to peer-reviewed journals. One of the highlights of his career was the development of the National Park Service Resource Management Training Program. Since its inception, it has dispersed to every national park in the United States, where a resource management specialist is now always on hand.
